Explosion Hits CBN Calabar

News from Channelstv has it that, Several people have sustained injuries after a gas explosion went off at a construction site in the Cross River State office of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The explosion went off at the premises of the bank located on Calabar road by the Millennium Park in Calabar, the state capital.

Speaking to Channels Television at the site of the incident, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 6, AIG Adisa Baba Bolanta, confirmed that the explosion was caused by gas cylinders in the office and not a bomb blast as speculated by some persons.
Security operatives have cordoned off the road leading to the bank while officials of the federal and state fire services went about putting out the fire as well as rescuing those trapped in the building.

Ambulances from the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH and General Hospital Calabar were brought in to evacuate the injured.
